The International Contemporary Furniture Fair is set to take place at the Javits Center 16 May – 19 May, and will feature work from leading international designers including my roommate, Aimee Wilder.

Aimee’s work will be on display at a satellite location in the Meatpacking District (424 W 14th Street).  The trade show will be open to the general public on May 19th from 10AM to 4PM.

Zuriick Black Leather Thomas High Top

One might be pressed to find stylish shoes at affordable prices in New York, but the Utah-based brand, Zuriick, might surprise you.  Zuriick’s collection of shoes for men and women is not only very cool, but very affordable.

If you haven’t already, I’m sure you’ll start to notice this brand around Williamsburg; everything from brightly colored mid-tops to these black leather Thomas High Tops that can add just the right amount of profile to your feet.  With prices ranging from $55-$98 dollars, everyone can feel good about picking up a pair.  These black leather ‘Thomas’ high tops are comfortable for work or going out and are available at OAK among other places (see below).

Green Jacket Man on the Satorialist

The trees aren’t budding yet, but green is popping up in some unusual places.  In a year when no one seems to have enough green; there are some surefire signs of better weather around the corner.

3.1 Phillip Lim Green Pants.  Brightly colored pants are ubiquitous in advertising this season, but this 3.1 Phillip Lim poly/cotton blend pair seems to stand out among the others.

I don’t normally follow the stock market, but I’ve noticed the market data has been more green then red lately.  Everyone is sick of hearing about the economy so at least the averages have seemed to cease their downward spiral for time being.

Takashimaya and the Green Jacket Man on Satorialist  (pictured up top).  There aren’t very many things on the Satorialist that i’d actually consider wearing, but this get-up is perhaps one of them.  Actually, it was the Takashimaya bag that caught my eye– I have one of those lying on my bedroom floor that i’ve neglected to pickup since I attended a fragrance launch there last week.  Anyway, every New Yorker has that same black outfit, and the green jacket is cool, right?  And in case you haven’t been, check out lunch at the Tea Box in the basement of Takashimaya (5th ave btwn 54/55).

The Art of the Korean Renaissance exhibit will be hosted at the Met from March 17th until June 21st.  The exhibition features works from 1400-1600 AD when neo-Confucianism was promoted by the state in both theory and practical implementation.  During the Korean Renaissance, the ruling and noble classes enabled the advancement of secular art and culture; which introduced innovative new art forms into traditional culture.

“An extraordinary cultural renaissance took shape during the first two centuries of the Joseon dynasty—a captivating and dynamic sampling of which is presented in this exhibition. You are invited to travel back in time to experience its wonder and significance.”

Marlow & Sons is a small oyster house located in the back of a grocery store in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge in Brooklyn.

The overall warm setting of this smaller restaurant is marked by long communal tables with benches, dimly lit chandeliers and candles, and a full bar on one side of the room.  The setting entertains both friendly and romantic dinner dates; with groups of friends gathered at the bar and younger couples sharing the intimate seating space.

Marlow & Sons offers an affordable wine list (with house wines starting at $6/glass) and a large chalkboard on another wall displays the small yet enticing seasonal menu. When it came to ordering, I skipped the meat and cheese plate and shared the fettuccine Alfredo appetizer which was elegant, warm and delicious; and pretty much all you could hope for in a sophisticated take on a traditional comfort food.

For dinner I had a white wine and striped sea bass in broth with onions, carrots, and dill, which was cooked to perfection; also very buttery and delicious.  I also tried mouth-watering braised beef on saffron risotto which was tender and flavorful.  Everything was served in bowls and the food shared a trend of being very buttery and saucy but all in all very tasty.

Cheap Monday Chino in Black ($70)

The Swedish brand, Cheap Monday, is well known for offering stylish jeans for men and women at affordable prices– and the Spring 09 Collection doesn’t disappoint.  Here are a couple of my favorite staple items that won’t break the bank.

Radog 2006 Pinot Noir

Under the current economic circumstances everyone is cutting back on everyday expenses — including wine.  It’s times like this that we’re reminded that drinking domestic wine is not only a pleasurable experience, but our civic duty.  Here are two great reds made in america, and widely available for under $25.

1. 2006 Pinot Noir from Radog Wines

Finding a spring jacket that you can wear at night may be difficult, but after scouring the internet for a while I found three of my favorite options all from Rag & Bone.  Here are a few (black) spring jackets that won’t make you stick out like a tourist.

Finally, after being delayed for months, Topman/Topshop is opening its doors in Soho on April 2nd.

“The store was originally set to open in autumn 2008, before numerous planning and construction delays. The flagship could be the first of up to 15 such stores across the U.S.
